Sonically Superior Mic Preamps All Behringer XENYX mixing consoles have one thing in common-great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. These state-of-the-art mic pres represent a major step in the evolution of audio technology-and they can easily hold their own, even when compared to the most expensive standalone mic preamps.

XENYX preamps offer a staggering 130dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. Armed with these outstanding mic preamps, Behringer XENYX USB mixers provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics while you weren't looking. Sublimely Musical British EQ The British mixing consoles of the 1960s and '70s changed the sound of rock and roll-without them the British Invasion might not have happened.

Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQ on the Behringer XENYX USB mixer is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.

One-Knob Compression Ask professional sound engineers what their favorite piece of external processing gear is and the majority response will be virtually unanimous-dynamic compression. What is compression? Compression essentially limits the dynamic range of a signal, lowering the level of loud sounds and turning up softer sounds, to achieve sonic balance. But applying compression is a delicate art that many novice, and even intermediate, sound techs have great difficulty mastering. Behringer's 'one-knob' compression is available on all mono channels and is easy to operate, even for entry-level users. With this one knob, you can easily dial in the perfect amount of compression for instruments and vocals, creating powerful mixes with punch and clarity. This is indeed a rare feature for affordable mixers in this class-but standard on all Behringer XENYX USB mixers.

Effective FX The Behringer X2442USB mixer features 24-bit dual engine FX processor, with 16 editable, studio-grade presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and multi-effects. Complete with a highly accurate input meter, these effects can be altered to your personal taste via the Parameter control.

Time-based functions can be entered manually by pressing the Tap button in tempo with the music. Recording Bliss There was a time when the recording process called for lots and lots of expensive gear, which meant the average musician had to buy time at a recording studio-and that time was pricey indeed.

But modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. How do you get all that music flying around your brain into your computer? That's where the Behringer XENYX USB mixer comes in. Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect any of these mixers directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable.

Now any signal source you connect to the mixing console can be recorded directly to your hard drive. Which brings us to music software¦ Free Would Be Nice! Because you'll want to take full advantage of the Behringer XENYX X2442USB USB mixer's recording and podcasting potential, Behringer's thrown in a massive software package that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova, and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac computer right out of the box! The music software also gives you more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output. EnergyXT2.5 Compact Behringer Edition Included When you're ready to take your recording projects to the next level, XT Software's energyXT is just the trick.

This DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, turning song ideas into stunning CD or Web-ready recordings. EnergyXT includes its own multi-FX processor, plus a built-in synthesizer/sampler and a drum machine, both of which can be accessed directly via an external controller (such as Behringer's UMA25S) or programmed in step-write mode.

When I record myself, I occupy 7 of the 10 XLR inputs with my CAD Pro-7's. Since I use more that one condenser mic, I use the built in phantom power supply for the two small diaphragm condenser mics that I use as overheads. This processes the sound very well, and the parametric EQ for the midrange is insanely useful and versatile.

I also really love the effects processor as well. When I record electric guitar, I always either use a CAD small diaphragm condenser mic, or a MXL 990 large diaphragm condenser mic, depending on the sound I am going after. Since either of these applications requires phantom power, I actually use an ART Tube MP Studio preamplifier. If I find that this has too much warmth, I will re-plug back to the solid state preamps on the mixer.

Many people often complain that Behringer has noisy preamps, but I must disagree; or at least they made an extraordinary turning point with the new Xenyx mixers. Something that many people often overlook is their cables.

A beautiful mic used with amazing preamps but a crappy cable is still only as quiet as the cable. I use GLS cables and they work great. Now, when I record acoustic, vocals, and sometimes bass, I pipe them through the Tube MP Studio because even though the Xenyx preamps are good, I still have more faith in the MP Studio preamp.

With some EQ thrown in, these both sound amazing.A few more added features that I love is that Behringer threw in subgroups, which add so much more versatility, and that they added direct outputs as well for sending the first 8 channels to separate receivers. All in all, 5 stars, hands down. We bought this after a lot of nail-biting and research. We were able to figure it out pretty quickly and put it to work. The sound quality is terrific, and the effects are. The sound quality is terrific, and the effects are useful and fun. Our unit soon began to malfunction at the worst times- in a classroom setting, or at a gig. It just won't always produce sound. Maddening, frustrating, disappointing. We're sending it back for repair, and in the meantime we're cancelling paying gigs (both playing out and running sound for other bands) left and right.

Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: i think it is great, and i have been using boards similar for over a decade.

This thing is slam packed with stuff. My irish trad trio was playing out on st. Patrick's day and i dialed in some reverb and my flute player, who is a dealer in high end audio and pro audio was floored that so many features were packed into this thing.

I think it of good quality. I worry about it taking a dive as my old matckie was able to - but i think a good padded case would help. I am surprised that this does not come with a case, or even have one available. The software that came with the product at one quick glance does not appear to have received a lot of development as far as its interface is concerned. Stuff on here available on boards much more expensive.

Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: The first XENYX X2442USB USB Mixer with Effects I bought had perfectly aligned faders and worked great for about 10 hours. Then a terrible buzz developed in the DSP and it was terminably unusable. Sent it back. Musician's Friend was great about the return. Bought another identical unit.

This time I also bought the 3 year extended warranty, just in case. This unit has misaligned faders and came with a ruptured silica gel packet in the bag and beads were everywhere inside the board, like a giant maraca. After evacuating the beads it is working just fine, but I hold my breath every day. It works really great and I love the features. I'm hoping it continues to perform for years like the other reviewers. Time will tell. The features are what drew my eye to the 2442.

8 direct outputs, 4 subgroups, 4 aux sends and returns, USB, etc. Also the onboard effects. Good features for the price. Faders do not line up well at Zero.

That's not cool because every setting along its path is now suspect. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: I purchased this mixer mainly because of the 8 direct outs. It isn't an 8 buss mixer, but those 8 direct outs allows me to record 8 independent tracks at once.

This is great, if you have a drummer to record. Give each of his mics a track and then you can tweak each recorded track before mixing down to a stereo track. There are also a lot of other outputs on the back of this mixer. And they are all 1/4 inch plugs, which is also great. Everything is plainly marked.

I don't use the internal effects that much, but I have used some. It's just another added feature that's there, if you need it. My old mixer quit and I've only had this one for a few months. I'm still tweaking the different ways I can use it with my present system. I enjoy learning what I can do, that I couldn't do before. The manual is fine, but it's for every model of this Xenyx group. That makes some areas of the manual difficult.

But, this is a good deal and a great mixer. I'm glad I purchased it. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: Steep learning curve for me, but it solved all of my problems. This machine has a lot of ways to configure the mixers inputs and poor documentation. So you need to just be patient.

I am not familier with a lot of the nomeclature used with this mixer. That makes it hard to configure. It is very fast little to no lag time and the sound is clean ( no noise). This is not a tool for those who are not patient. It works very well with Acid 7 and Vegas12.

I spent about 18 hours getting this mixer to be fully functional. My previous usb mixer just worked right out of the box.

This one was difficult but the extra work seems to be well worth it and I have the extra inputs I needed. The speed is there so there are no hiccups. Once you get the hang of how this pannel is layed out it will work great. Just dont expect much help from the docs in the box. The online user manual is a little bit better. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: As with all Behinger equipment you get the best bang for your buck, I've had this board for about 3 years and have been very pleased, I am using it as a sub board to a Behringer MX-9000 most often in my television production truck, but have also used the set up as a front of house console.

It has many more features, - i.e. More aux sends, direct outputs, 2 extra mic pres, clean mic pres - than any other board of the same price.

The only problem I've had with this board is the loss of one mic preamp. At the time it died it was a kick drum channel with a Shure Beta 52a mic. Could have meen a hot mic but doubtful as it is just a dynamic mic.

Have been cautious since and not had any other problems. Having the 10 mic inputs has made it still capable of handling most any drum kit even being down to 9 channels.

An external mic pre on one of the 2 remaining stereo channels takes up any slack, Am getting ready to buy a second for another smaller portable rig. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: researched every board from every company, aside from the top end allen and heath, or presonus boards, there is none that matches this one in available features. 4 stereo sub groubs, 4 aux sends with stereo returns, and direct outs and inserts on first 8 channels. That said, sound comes clean through the board, little or no noise except for that present in my instrument pick ups, but that much is normal, DI should correct for this.

Use currently for recording. Sound comes through clean. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: Needing a new board for both my portable& project studios I took a chance on a Scratch N Dent one of these from MF almost 2 years ago and then bought a Mackie that was far more expensive. I've found no flaws w/Behringer other than a broken power lamp. The Mackie was a good unit, but very soon I preferred the XenyX & it was so good, there was no need for both. If I didn't own one & was told that a quiet (fully pro w/external NR) mixer with more than average subs, doable combos, great EQ's (esp. Mid)and very dynamic compression could be had for this price, I would have never believed it - and I've been an industry pro with many hats in and out of studios for nearly 30 years.

I remember when MOST but not ALL (I have some 15 year old speakers still making me money) Behringer gear was considered junk for good reason. However, I'd been hearing good things for a couple years before buying this XenyX. I've since looked into it and the case can be made for steady improvement taking place from within there in Germany for over 6 years now. ESPECIALLY in quality control, which helped earn them a bad rep with many pros. You could buy a pair of speakers one would sound great the other pathetic. That's all changed now in a big way and if you look past them only because of what you've heard - you should take a new look and especially listen. Unless you can afford to pay much more for gear just for the name.

I went to a big shop to buy a pair of 15' powered Mackie's (Thumps cost more than the Behringers!)just last year and after careful A&B'ing everything in sight(even with some QSC's)I just could not justify paying the BIG difference for a bar band PA - Now I suppose it's possible that some lonely musician in the room could come up some night and say 'hey dudes those Behringers are junk - get some real speakers.' Personally I'm not too worried about it - the system - WITH this XenyX and a cool 12' Behringer 'Monitor Only' sounds great to us. The weak link is a Thump used as the other monitor. It Sets up and tears down fast. I walked out of that big store with a nice mic for my locker, several new heavy duty speaker cables AND a practice amp with the money I saved.

Before buying a mixer - or any live sound gear, just by reputation, try this XenyX along with some other new Behringer PA gear - my hunch says you & your wallet be very glad you did. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: I find Behringer products to be hit or miss. They are either going to work for a week, or last for years and so I tend to stay away.

This time I however needed a larger mixer with plenty of routing but could not spend money on a higher priced Mackie. Either way, I've been very impressed with this unit and it offers a lot of features including has been very stable for a good amount of months now. Each channel offers 4 aux sends, the last 2 can be sent for FX as well which.I thought would be nice for all 4 to be able to route to, but I can get external racks for those. Vectorscribe Studio Keygen Photoshop. The 4 buss outs are great for sub mixes. I use this in a studio so 2 go to my monitors and the other two just to my headphones. The 8 mono inputs offer a preamp as well as a single knob compressor.

I've heard far better compression compared to this so I turn that off. The overall features of this product are quite nice and I suggest anyone in a 'STUDIO' try this board, I don't however think it will hold up for gigs or road shows.and the last think you want to fail is your mixer! Last note, the FX can only be bypassed if you use the foot switch.I rigged up a momentary switch on a project box for easy getting to without having a foot switch on the floor getting in the way in studio. I wish this could have been done without but oh well. Customer support really was not too helpful on answering my questions on this unit either. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: I bought my first one to replace a Carvin that was taken out by lightning.

From first use I liked the Behringer much better. The faders were smoother and it had more features.

Unfortunately, the power supply died not too long after the warranty expired. In a pinch I bought a second one. While still in warranty it started failing. Channels would intermittently work.

It finally got bad enough I had to send it in for repair. Repairs lasted a couple months and the problem came back.

At this point the best solution seemed to be to take the power supply out of the second one and put it into the first one. That got me another year out of it, but now it's starting to act up. Nothing but noise when you turn it on.

Power cycling usually gets it working again but sometimes that takes several tries. Not sure how long it will last before it becomes unusable, but I know that time is coming.

I WANT to like it. I think it's engineered well. Even for the price, though, it's assembled poorly with inferior parts, IMO. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: Mains went down in first three months I requested a new replacement mixer and received an outdated model delivered to wrong address, second model they sent me was a refurbished model and older dated than the one I sent in, finally they sent my mixer back, seeing it was the newest of the three I decided to keep it and sent the other two back.

My mixer lasted a little over a year before the aux send channel 3 went down, one of the split channels quit working, and yes the mains gave out during our Church's 120 yr celebration. I sent it back two months ago hoping for a replacement but received an email stating they could not find any problems and because it took so long they weren't going to charge me return shipping, how thoughtful. Please don't buy Behringer product until they choose to service the product they sell. Comments about Behringer X2442USB Xenyx Mixer: At time of purchase there were no Windows 8 drivers.

Still aren't any that I know of. It is a little complicated to use at first with the USB (you'll need to use the Windows 7 drivers for Windows 8) but once you get the hang of it, no problem.

It's clean sounding and has given me no troubles. I've purchased a lot of Behringer equipment, and I don't understand what the fuss is over (yet) about their quality, everything works.

Perhaps it's the way it's treated? Mine pretty much stays in one spot and gets covered when not in use.
