Alligator Alley Program Notes For An American
PROGRAM 80: Today we are treated to “two minds without a single thought” as we present a fond tribute to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, recalling the many antics of the immortal Stanly and Oliver as the magic of radio recalls some of their best performances. We’ll hear an hour-long University of Detroit “Town Hall” radio production produced in the early 1960s, just after the death of Ollie and shortly before Stan died. That broadcast contains a rare interview by Bill Raby with Stan Laurel himself, reminiscing about his career, telling how the team selected their theme song, how they met and got their start in pictures.
There are some comments on the L&H comedy style by Soupy Sales, Hans Conried, Arthur Treacher and Orson Bean, as well as some seldom heard recordings by Mr. Laurel and Mr. We’ll also tune in to what is perhaps the only radio appearance of the duo in a comedy skit from the 1940s with Stan about to get married to Patsy Moran and Ollie helping to arrange the ceremony. OUR SPECIAL GUESTS are CHARLES HUCK and TONY DiGAUDIO, the Enchanted Ruler and the Grand Shiek of the Bacon Grabbers Tent of the Laurel and Hardy Fan Club, the Sons of the Desert.
