The new GT350 and GT350R are currently roaming the streets, but big brother is still coming – and a debut is just around the corner. Ford Performance is hard at work on the new GT500, according to fresh reports from Detroit.
The powerplant could produce “well over the 700HP mark”, all while “breathing through a straw”. Take it for what it’s worth, but we perceive that as a hint towards Forced Induction (low boost from the factory?). We are also hearing that Ford is working ‘very hard’ on Direct-Injection for this new powerplant.
Could we see Ford’s first production 5.0 EcoBoost make it’s debut in the 2018 GT500? After all, that’s what the people want. And it’s no secret that Ford has been testing a 5.0 Twin Turbo development mule as recently as a few months ago: Regardless, we expect this new beast to depart from the highly-discussed Flat Plane Crank 5.2L GT350 motor. Traditionally, the GT350 (and GT350R) has always been aimed towards track use, while the GT500 is more of an earth-rotating, straight line, freeway runner. As far as power delivery, as you all know, the Hellcat is producing just north of 700HP, so we would be shocked if Ford doesn’t take it one step further. “Our new SVT Halo Mustang will have more HP than the Hellcat”. Hold on to your butts.
If this new behemoth will be a forced induction car, than we can safely assume that Ford will stick with the traditional lobe crankshaft, or at least depart from the 5.2L GT350 platform. The new GT350 if a high compression car, so running boost through it would require quite significant changes. Another topic worthy of discussion is weight savings. We all know Ford has recently invested heavily in Aluminum materials and tooling, primarily for the new F-150 line – but Ford Performance has also added a heavy dose of weight savings to the new GT350 and GT350R in terms of carbon forged plastic, carbon fiber wheels and aluminum fenders.

Could we see a new GT500 with more extreme use of aluminum and carbon fiber? Could we see this car come in at 700+HP and weigh less than 3,600 lbs from the factory? When can we expect some hard info on this new Ford Performance Halo car? Time will tell, but our sources seem to believe that this car will be released 2018 model year, so we expect a preview in the Summer of 2016, if not sooner. It’s also interesting to note that Ford has already claimed that there will be “12 New, High Performance Vehicles announced”.
You can mark the SVT Raptor, Focus RS, GT350 and GT350R off that list – so Ford still has a few more tricks up their sleeve. Stay tuned for more 2018 GT500 news. Update: Ford caught testing new GT500 variants, source claims one of the cars may have run a 10.96 @ 126 MPH. I think its not going to be as heavy as you think. Steal is about 2.5 times denser than aluminum.
So its weight is extremely light compared to steal. Also if Ford is using laminated aluminum for the panels then weight can be exponentially lighter.
In all reality if you took the current mustang and put it on an aluminum work over along with suspension pieces and the rest it could be almost 1000 lbs lighter. IRS weight isnt as much as most people think in all reality if done right it could be extremely light.
If i was Ford as well Id incorporate as much seal as needed to bring it to a 50/50 weight distro. Interestingmy buddy in Dearborn who is working on the SVT S550 also said that the car they are working on will be more than a 50hp boost over the current GT500, but he said nothing about weight or power plant. He is the guy who told us that Ford was developing a larger SOHC motor for a specialized “off road pickup” about one year before Ford announced the Raptorthen the 6.2 eventually came out.
Even if this car is 3800 pounds it will still be a land rocket. One other thing he has mentioned will be wider bodywork and more extreme front fascia with this car. Hopefully we hear something official soon •. The Challenger weighs 4,439#s dry, (that means without fuel) to drive it, it takes a driver and fuel pushing the weight to at least 4,639#s. So the math is clear 11.49 which is fast for a large vehicle.
BTW: HotRod just did a test with a HR editor and a FIAT SRT Developer that was hand picked to showcase the performance of the Challenger Hellcat. They ran 12 passes with 2 cars. 3 each with the stock tires (best E/T 11.45 @ 123) and 3 each with DRs.
(best E/T 11.19 @ 124) That mph tells the tell of just how much hp the car is making! I owned a 2009 ROUSH Mustang (P51B) running 510HP and an SRT Challenger (2011 model). Love the Challenger, love the Mustang. They are both great cars but it’s apples and oranges to compare the two.
Personally I think the Challenger would be my pick for a daily driver, even licking my chops for a new Hellcat, as well as awaiting the new GT500 to arrive. They will both replace what I own today. People will argue all day long over these two variants of power on 4 wheels but they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I won’t bash either model, absolutely love the look and drive of the Challenger but the Mustang has always been my choice on track and or race day. The Challenger feels heavy as will the 2015 Hellcat, although arguably much improved from my 2011 model. The Mustangs new suspension is hands down the best thing next to a set of turbos on the 5.0 that’s ever happened to a Mustang and I just can’t see the Challenger beating it on a track or a strip.
Still, I’ll be driving that Challenger more than the Mustang.I’ll bet on that now! Niresh bring your “stock”mustang gt to tennessee you will find out you’re wrong. I have a hellcat 6 speed.
It is almost as quick as my 260 z which for the record has gone 10.59 ant 133 with a mild 93 octane carberated engine *spelling. I love cars and that’s what it’s about. In fact my wife and I collect them. We have a 72 mach 1 a 68 camaro a chevelle as srt 8 challenger and a hellcat. I don’t give a shit if you’re building lamborghini will beat my hellcat. I have fast cars and can smoke it too. I have been a car guy for 40 years as soon as I was old enough to work on them with my dad.
I like things about each car. The hellcat drive like a bigger corvette (before the haters come I have a 2000 convertible so don’t go there).I like my hellcat and love the new body mustangs too. So quit being haters and please do bring your stock gt to tenn. To race my hellcat. Bring your own tissues though because I won’t have you crying on my good guys shirt. Ps the hellcats were way underage on power, they have dyno ed consistently at 740 plus at the crank with a few over 750. Dodge had more power than that.
I’ve read 823 but they had a hard time with emmissions. Pulley change tune and a few other mods one guy got 1038 at the tires. The car went 9.68 you can find the video on youtube. The charger HC is 4600 lbs and faster than the Challenger HC be ause it puts more weight over the rear wheels for grip.
I’ve gone to many tracks since hellcats arrival, and I’ve YET to see 1 hellcat run under 11.7 on oem tires, not 1. Out of probably 15. On the street, the hellcat (either of them), are not going to run faster than 12 flat at over 122. Big slicks and lots of extra cooling and a little over boost from a tune took that hellcat to a sub 11 sec run. The hellcats are more for bragging hp rights, be ause they’re getting beat be lesser powered machines on the street, 500 hp machines even. I’ve been to 2 private SRT Helcat events, at near sealevel in 65-68 degree air, with 3 Hellcats and 2 of SRT’s top drivers, the Hellcat on street oem tires could barely run, mph and a best 0-60 mph of 4.3 sec.
That run was on slicks, on a very heavily prepped track with engineers spraying CO2 on the intercooler between runs, plus 2 psi more than stock, basically about 825 crank hp Mobey Dick is not to far off. Also, many of us that have had any years racing Omar products could not do better than mph on oem rubber, no matter how warm the tires were. The cars weight, gearing and poor aerodynamics all contribute. It won’t take nearly as much hp for a much more aerodynamic, 700+ lb lighter car with a god driver to handily beat a Hellcat. A GT500 on drag radials with its stock 662 hp runs all day. A new 2015 5.0 supercharged (under development at FordRacing), ran 10.68 & 10.77 @129 &131 mph, with just 625 hp. 700 lbs lighter and superior aero with gearing will roast a higher hp vehicle all day.
I was a SRT guy till 2013. Especially a vehicle advertising a HEMI, that’s not a real HEMI at all. I am not a top Driver for SRT but I consistently run 3.8 in my 0-60 runs and on good runs get 3.4 or 3.5 and with drag radials have not yet had a run higher than 10.98 and my best was 10.49 and it is not a prepared track and I am not spraying anything on my intercooler I certainly question your “private SRT hellcat events” I guess that is a good way to claim you saw it with no way to prove you did not. I own an automatic Hellcat and am open to any stock American made car and feel I will beat them all as I already have taken on 2 GT 500 and won not by much but I won they certainly have a shot at winning just has not happened yet I am hoping to race the new corvette and see what happens. Love my Hellcat win or lose however. If Ford comes out with a new GT 500 with 700 plus horsepower than they will again have the king of the street but until then you will only see my tail lights my friend. Chris, I dont know what you are doing commenting about Dodge since by your last few replies, you are completely wrong on all accounts.
Lets throw the attitudes out the window and talk facts. It has been proven time and time again by actual hellcat owners that a set of decent tires will get you into the 10’s. The 11.7 was someone who was inexperienced with the hellcat. If you know anything about cars, you should know no matter how good you are, you cannot jump into a car and reach its full potential the first try. It takes a while to get used to how the car acts. I’ll be giving the new gt500 with the TT a go when it comes. Get it moving Ford!!
I was in the same boat as you thought they were all decent and the same. The dodge cars are made extremely cheap. My Srt8 challenger body would ripple on its own. Perhaps torque twist. But who it the heck builds a car out of tin foil like dodge does? Piss poor design and poor materials. I was afraid to even was it because if I pushed to hard on the rag it would dent.
After the 3rd time pulling dents I’ll never get another chrysler product until they are bought out again. I went to the dealership to look at the new chargers just to see how they looked quality wise. Every single one dents and dings on it from the factory. Just LOL I feel bad for anyone that buys a dodgeit’s like throwing money out the door. After I joyfully traded in my challenger for a 13 gt500 I couldn’t believe the difference in quality. I cam actually lay on my car and don’t have to worry about a thingjust stiffness. I have 750hp and no twistnothing ever wrong with it.and it’s 3 years old.
Not to mention the way the Recaro seats make you feel snug like your in a race car. No sliding all over a seat that way too big.
I was never brand loyal until I owned the dodge. Never found the Chevy to be anything special. Ford has won me over. I’m sure the new TT will be fastand look great and be built wonderfully.
Not any more power than my current gt500 but it’ll have the ability to be tuned to the moon with TTs •. Just go to the challenger forum.
There is a long old thread on “mysterious dents”. They continue to build them that way. I brought my gt500 in for an oil change and so i went to the auto body department while I was waiting. There was a challenger there..i looked it over.
I told the guy working on it, he was supposed to be only buffing it up. I told him it will take a while to buff those ripples out. He looked at me like “what” i showed him the mysterious dent areas and he says”wowsure enough” Almost every single one of them has them.
Sometimes I’ll point them out at car shows to friends. It’s funny, really. I can spot them instantly same thing with the new chargersdents right around the back door handle. On all of themalong with other areas as well.
Ford doesn’t have this issue. There metal is flawless. I buy a car for performance, quality and looks.
Sure the dodges look ok from a distance but they are just complete junk, but that’s my opinion. When they are bough out again, maybe quality will improve. All of you talking about the Hemi’s branding are forgetting almost everything about it. The old HEMI represented a OHV (over head valve) valve train system, rounded heads, 2 valves per cylinder and produced up to 425 HP out of a 426 cubic inch. The new HEMI’s? Well OHV, 2 valves per cylinder and 425 hp from a 370 cubic inch. What does that mean?
Its an improvement. You can bitch about the “HEMI” being a marketing thing but wtf do you think the “302” is? The only major differences between the new an old hemis is that the sizes are different, the compression is higher, its more emissions compliant and produces more HP per cubic inch and it has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. Btw, for those who didn’t know, Chevy engines are freakin HEMI’s too. They feature OHV 2 valves per cyl roundish heads and sadly make less hp per cubic inch.
And here some physics for thought, mustangs will always be drag kings as long as they feature the solid rear axle. Because when a car launches the rear suspension attempts to “squat”, which causes the rear of the car to be lower to the ground which causes an angle pitch at the rear wheels. This is referred to as the “squat angle” in geometric suspension terms.
Its practically the same problem that you get when you lower a stock car without changing you alignment. You get camber. Camber isn’t good for drag racing, as we all know. Having a solid rear axle eliminates this problem because the rear suspension never freakin moves. Therefore no squat angle, and a steady, consistent contact patch on the ground. Unfortunately the 2015 mustang swapped to IRS (independent rear suspension) so now it is prone to squat angle just like its competitors.
Doesn’t anyone find it strange that all of the magazines that road tested the HellCat never ran times that were even close to the ones that Mopar ran at their test facility. Doesn’t anyone find it strange that none of the same magazines never ran a road test comparison with the HellCat vs the 2014 GT 500? If Ford builds this 2017 GT 500 don’t expect any comparisons from the same magazines because of the anti-Ford bias that has existed in the car magazines since the 1960’s.
Just put the word HEMI on a Mopar product and the media is having wet dreams regardless of overall performance or the lack there of. The “Ford Rep on CNN” comment linked to in the article was not anything of the sort. All the CNN story says is that “A Ford spokesman wouldn’t comment on its competitors car, but a new Shelby GT500 with, potentially, more power is expected to be revealed some time soon.” There was no mention of the quote referenced. This was in July, before the GT350 and 350R were even revealed. CNN is notoriously clueless when it comes to the automobile industry. In other words, this article is worthless and completely fabricated. Sound like politician.
Can’t swallow the truth and keep ducking the facts. Funny thing is those same SRT Engineers could not even get a 0-60 mph time of under 4.2sec either.
No grip, and that was with drag radials. On street tires they could nt do better than 4.4 sec. I’ve seen tuned 465 hp 13-14′ mustang 5.0’s beat stock hellcats from 0-80 mph. It’s easy: grip!!!!
Your not winning, if your spinning. I’ve had my share of SRT products since 2007 They’re not Hemis either.
No such thing as a real HEMI after the early 70’s. Dodge purchased the copy rights to use the name to help sell the brand, and it worked.
I WAS one of those idiots till I opened my mind and did homework. No it is actual design vs marketing BS, it’s like putting a fake scoop on a car, its if Ford wanted to call engines “cammers” that really weren’t overhead cam engines at all.take you cast iron, pushrod “made in mexico” hellcat engine all you want, I prefer my sophisticated 4 cam 5.8 GT500 engine, did I mention my gt500 will do 65 in 1st gear, oh and by the way, all I have to do is replace my throttle body with a Super CJ unit, add a bigger air tube and a smaller supercharger pully and I am closing in on 750 RWHP, my bone stock GT500 dyno’s 631 rwhp on 93 octane gas, •.
Congratulations, I guess? Its common knowledge that you can gain HP by modding a car, and a lot more by modding a boosted car. I dont know what the point of that post was. So tell me this. What does the 2015 Mustang have in common with the first generation Mustang, other than the name?
Its the same argument. The Gen III Hemi is the evolution from the original. You take a design, and improve upon it. Sometimes that ends in a drastically different product, like calling the euro looking car a Mustang. A full hemisphere head was great for its time but it is inefficient by todays standards. The Gen III still has the shape, although its not a full hemisphere. Is it an original Hemi?
Of course not, its the better Gen III Hemi •. Yes, you have been bashing the 6.4 NA Challenger while praising the GT500. Which shows you dont know much about either since stock vs stock they are a VERY close race. The 6.4 is capable of 11’s with a good driver and so is the GT500. The difference is that the Mustang takes a blower and very light weight to keep up with the NA fat Challenger, BUT it cost more from the factory. $54k GT500 vs $36k Scat Pack. Even you were talking about “oh I could mod the 5.0 with the money I save on it” but ignore the $18k gap on the GT500.
Now if you want to compare supercharged car vs supercharged car the Hellcat does cost more but is faster stock, then of course you have the Demon. I know what my car can do what does yours do? When I get my Whipple or twin turbos meet me and we will see what your car can do.Only you take this as bashing if you cannot take the talk then don’t walk the walk. Yes only in your mind a heavier car could dust a lighter car but a crying shame that a 6.2 has to pick on a 5.4 supercharged from factory, the scat pack sure is no competition for my ShelbyGT500, you never said what you drive, well let me know because the only car that has beat my good ole Selby was a GTR you got one then bring it on, put up or shut up because I grew up with molars you are the one who needs to learn about cars. Gun With Occasional Music Epub. My Shelby is about what the scat pack cost where I live. Still I think you are jealous of Shelby’s because you must not own any car with horsepower, I have the right to my opinion so don’t put words in my mouth I love my cars but hubby and I will be waiting on a guy that is wishing and hoping he will be a legend in James With mind •.
Holy shit I guess I found your crazy button LMAO!!! 8 replys over 2 hours? Did I really get under your skin that bad? First off, calm your tits We are on the internet, not at the track.
If you flip out like that at every comment on the internet your are either crazy, or going to go crazy. Your comments are all over the place and based on opinion alone, mine are based on facts that you can easily find on the internet. A Hellcat is a stock car.
If its coming from the factory as is and is not modified then its stock. They run 11.2 on stock wheels. A stock GT500 does not come close to that time. You may have beaten scat packs yourself, that would mean that your car is either modded or you raced shitty drivers.
As I said before, a STOCK scat pack and STOCK GT500 run the same times. Put drag radials on them and they still run the same times but comparing your modded car to a stock car makes no sense at all. Once you start modding it comes down to who has more money.
I know hondas that will dust your shelby and hellcats. The Demon IS a street legal car, no matter how much you want it to not be a fact is a fact. ANY car that does 9 second quarter miles should not be driven in the rain lol. If you knew anything about racing you would know that already. Yes, your shelby can drive in the rain. So can a Hellcat that is much faster, so whats the point? Hey you calm down and quit being stupid you were talking a out the demon not the hellcat, you still do not understand a Shot GT 350 will dust that heavy hellcat calm your circle jerking down with Hansel or Gretel but most cars aren’t stock.
The Hellcat cost more than the Shelby have youooked at the Terlingua mustang now top that off oh yes what did you say you drive because you are a man that cannot excelt that jealousy gets you nowhere. We have dusted a Hellcat with our Shelby a d Scat pact got dusted so unless you know what you are talking about then bring your car on. Or bring your moped I know what I am talking about what is your excuse of being a man. Now quit getting your tits in a uproar. I know that my 2007 Shelby would dust the Challenger because most of them were 6.1 and I was in the car not running beside it with extra weight. You will never convince me on cars been around them for over 30 yrs and another thing I have the facts on my car, not just talk because Power nation is a program I watch, read on the Terlingua mustang that is a car that competes for the price, also ShelbyGT350 runs also.
You are not getting under my skin because I was just talking but I see I cannot talk to a stupid is as stupid does and that is you like I said I have the cars to back up what I am saying and quit trying to make someone agree with you because I do not, also lets be for real you started this so quit acting as if I am getting in a uproar because I have a husband and cars what is your excuse. Don’t flatter yourself because I know you aren’t worth my time🐇🐕🙋🖕 •. If you read on the demon you will see the car takes nitro drag radials and the demon has you sign a request for you not to drive in the rain. The Shelby drives in the rain, also my 5.0 does but unless you want to buy nittotires after 5000 wear on your nittotires then that is sad.
Any way my Shelby is cheaper than the demon and my driver says bring your car on the street we are not scared. I love my cars and my driver is Nick named ripper and that’s not for putting around.
Last thing do you go see NHRA maybe you should to see what the fastest cars are also check out IHRA not Nascar •. That’s with an auto transmission where your granted.5 seconds. Throw a auto in the last gt500 Will hit 10’s as many times as a 392s that hit 11’s. You can’t hide the 500 lbs of extra weight and the 150 additional HP. Anyway, In 2 months we’ll see the next GT500 and what it’s capable of, it’s supposed to be coming with a auto or DCT. At 760+HP and auto at 3800 lbs, I’ll guess it will do 10.6 and it will corner like mad on the track. Stay tuned for the Detroit auto show, I’m sure you won’t miss the news.
Where the hell are you getting your information? Its flat out wrong, on both replies. The Scat Pack 6.4l Challenger starts at $38k MSRP and can be bought for $36k if you know what your doing.
The 5.0 starts at $33k and that is a very BASE car. The Scat Pack comes with forged light weight wheels and 4 piston brembos.
You need an additional $3k package on the 5.0 to get the wheels, brembos, decent suspension and a decent differential making it only a $2k difference between the two cars. Good luck finding a decent twin turbo kit for $2k lol •. Again, wrong with your information. The hellcat sells at $64k and was originally $62k.
Yes, when they FIRST came out dealers were trying to mark them up crazy. Just like any other very hyped limited production car. Shortly after the release they stopped that when Dodge announced that they sold more than they thought they would and upped production numbers. You can ABSOLUTELY get a hellcat for MSRP. Your information is biased as hell and very out dated. You dont have to do the math, you can go on youtube and play with your belly while you see hellcats run 10’s all day long with nothing more than a tire swap. Obviously, since Dodge had to up its production, there are plenty of people who would pay $64k for a 4,000lb car that does 10’s.
People actually wanted it so bad that Dodge went back and created the Challenger Demon which is debuting tonight, as I type. Rumored to have 1,000hp •.
I’vebeen to enough private hellcat events that involved Dodge engineers. Seen enough hellcats at tracks. It’s rare to see one on slicks get under 11.3 secat over 122 mph. Very, very few will ever do it. Next, these hellcats are nice cruisers on the street at best unless you want to cruise town on slicks, because for the most part, the hellcats will get smacked down on the street on street tires by far lesser machines.
I’ve seen it, and done it. If I wanted a good, fast daily driver or occasional driver, the Hellcat would not be it for 2 big reasons: Grip and weight. I’m from Detroit and know enough people in the right places to get straight, REALISTIC answers on any Ford, Chevy or Dodge.
I’ve also owned a 2012 SRT8 challenger, a 2013 GT mustang, and 2010 GT500. The 13′ 5.0 stock was as fast as my SRT8 6.4 from 0-100 and above 120, the 5.0 just pulls away. Superior aerodynamics and 800lbs less weight more than offset the hp difference between 420 & 475. And the old GT500 was a good car to, but suffered from HEATSOAK, which is a big problem with any large domestic V8, more so in the Dodge and Chevys. My 13′ 5.0 now has 495hp and 450tq and will have no problem dispatchinga hellcat from 0-100, purely on grip alone, on oem rubber. The SRT8 6.4 I sold.
The Shelby 2010 GT500 got sold. Oh, and after having spent 8 yrs as a Dodge/SRT tech, folks, that’s NOT a HEMI. If you want a real HEMI, buy something from before 1975 Marketing sells, especially to the idiots of the world. I’ve been with Ford now 9 years and have to say, after speaking to severl Ford Engineers, that the new GT500 replacement will be over 3600 lbs, but well under the 3800-3870 lbs of the 2013-14′ GT500’s. These Ecoboosts are tipping the scales at a older GT 3640+ lbs, but the magazines are testing loaded models.base versions of the Ecoboost are around 3575 and the base new 5.0 is at 3684, while loaded new 5.0’s are in the 3800-3830 lb range for coupe.
And, sadly, on 91 octane, 5.0’s are rated at 422hp, the Ecoboost on 91 is 300 hp. Automatic versions are another 5-10 hp less.
93 octane cars for 5.0 are in the 430-432hp range. My buddy’s at FMC won’t tell me why Ford decided to rate the hp in the new mustang on 93 octane, it doesn’t make sense since 80% of the U.S. The new 500 will have between 670-750hp, more than enough at 670, to beat a heavy hellcat. Infact, if one checks, Ford has some runs in the high 10’s at 1255 mph on actual street rubber, something Dodge can’t claim without slicks. And, Ford was the first of anybody, to get alight bolt on Eoboost to run mph and a similar light bolt on 5.0 to (that’s typical hellcat territory time-wise, on drag radials), and a similar 5.0 with Ford Racings supercharger on it, 630hp, run on a modest 9.5-10 psi, on slicks. So if you all are dumb enough to think that the most hp wins, go play in the sandbox.
Your not “win’n if your spin’n”. You lost it at “it’s not a REAL Hemi”. Of course it’s not the same block or dimensions at the 1930s tank engine, the 50s car engine, or the ’60s race and sometimes car engine. Nor does it have an exactly half-dome combustion chamber, as that would suck. It’s a Hemi with quench pads, dual plugs and refinement in the curvature of the chamber roof, all of which make it better than the original. It’s also making more true SAE net power from 392 cubes than the original did in gross hp from 426.
It’s pushing heavier cars to higher traps speeds than the 426, that’s right off the floor dead stock no tuning.. I have a Hellcat.
I run 102 octane, have wider 295/35 Michelin Sport Cups on the back, only use the red key, have a Diablo Trinity VI tune on it, put the car in track mode and always launch in 2nd gear. My best quarter mile time was 10.9 seconds at 127mph and my worst was 11.2 at 125mph. I have never had a 0-60 under 3 secondsbut heatsoak has never been a problem. The BEST attribute of the Hellcat motor and set up IS the cooling and heat extraction. I dont know what Hellcats you were witness to(in person I hope), but your post reeks of a bias toward the Mustang and agenda to put down the Dodge. No doubt the Challenger is a heavy car, but you give examples that I have never witnessed with my involement with 4 total Hellcats. Exact timing for me and my next modern muscle/sports car.
The Hellcat Charger and Z06 so far in the running and possibly the new ZL1 all sporting automatic tranny options. Ford better step to the plate with a state of the art 8 speed auto with paddle shifters that will open up more customers like myself.
My wife and kids (all grown) have never driven a manual and my next car will not only be mine but all of theirs too. • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () •.
I commented a year ago that Ford wasn’t going let the hellcat take all the accolades in the muscle car wars and if this article is close to fact its going to be a hell of a car. Now for Ford to step up and enter the 21st century offering a automatic with paddle shifters. The current GT500 with the manual only is a bear of a muscle car to drive around town and in traffic so the auto would open up to new consumers like myself that want a fast state of the art auto tranny like the eight speed found in the Z06 for the first time. The ZL1 will be powered by the Z06 LT4 giving it all the power of the Z at 650 hp torque. Can’t wait to test drive them both. • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () •.
THAT WHOLD BE THE DOOM THING FOR FORD TO DO.IS STOP MAKING THE V8 MOTOR.I’M A TRUE BLUE FORD PERSON. THAT WHOULD GIVE CHEVY AND DODGE MORE BRAGGING RIGHTS.I THANK THERE STUPID AS HELL. This still wont be able to comapre the Shelby’s original work, maybe it has the snake, but it wont have what it takes to beat a real Cobra. Throw as much horsepower as you want into it, I have a 2007 Shelby GT500 Super Cobra Jet, which tuned all the way down, rwhp is 728.8. Car’s a beast and can just barely touch 200mph on a cool spring day. Hope Ford can really step their game up, not saying it can compete, but I’d like a little challenge every once in a while. 😉 • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () •.
So not impressed. I wonder if they’ve upped the internals to handle more power than 740, already seen 5.0 f150’s TT’d making SAE rated 896hp and 695tq. Sounds like ford isnt really pushing it yet tho. I am just glad that in 2015 we can have a discussion about 700 hp cars that can be bought at any of the Big 3 dealerships. • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () • Pingback: () •.
Dodge expects that the 6.4-equipped Challengers should be able to hit 60 mph in roughly 4.5 seconds and post quarter-mile times in the mid-12s. We saw 60 mph fly by in 4.5 and traveled 1320 feet in 12.9 when we tested a six-speed manual Challenger SRT8 Now for what you’ve been waiting for: the new 2015 Mustang GT accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and gallops through the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 112.2 mph. This info was gotten from motor trend as well car and Driver and both cars are 2015. So as everyone can see really how close these #s are even in a srt8 challenger. They final # is going to come down to the driver The two places I got this info were the same But I’m sure there are others out there were the challenger comes out on top by a tenth if a sec. It all comes down to buy what you want! I’m a mustang guy u always have been but I love the challengers looks and everything about them The only thing that sucks in this situation is the challenger has a bigger 6.4l and the mustang a 5.0 You guys decide for yourselves what you want to own Either way someone will tell you your car sucks and vice.
I ordered a new Shelby gt 350 i haven’t even got it yet and I have already been told I’m stupid for ordering it But the thing is I don’t give a shit because I buy what I like. This is why the V8 Community sounds like a bunch of kids outside in 2nd grade, low blows and name calling, I thought you were grown men? 1) The Hellcats will run 10.90 on drag radials, it’s been confirmed by Hot Rod and Cars.com they both did it. 2) With a tune and a blower pulley (smaller) they have run I believe 10.60 on drag radials. 3) Lethal Performance; one of their customers has the fastest stock blower GT500 in the country it does run 10.7 because a GT500 with a Whipple upgrade runs 9’s. 4) The FRP Blower kit will put a Coyote Mustang into the 10’s, why is that amazing?
But so does the Whipple kit and the twin turbo kits floating around. You can do it with Nitrous, which is what American Muscle has done. 5) The ’17 GT500 will make earth rotating HP north of 700 and when the turbos hit likely more torque too.
6) This still doesn’t make the V8 Community family friendly especially online you guys are immature, have dirty mouths and should be ashamed of yourselves but likely aren’t. Ford, thanks for holding back info to help sales of the 350 (sarcastic tone).
When the 500 comes it will belittle the 350 with the same type suspension, not much more weight and 200+ more hp and tuning possibilities to the moon! Everyone will drop the 350 like a bad habit.
I’m guessing it’s gonna be the new 5.2 standard crank engine. Should put out some serious power with TT. First it was 2016, 2017 and now 2018?! I bet Ford throws out a limited batch of 2017’s. Come on ford, I’m not gonna live forever!!
Why depart from the flat plane crank v8, why depart from a 5.8L 351??? Why not combine the Flat Plain Crank with the 5.8L 351ci DOHC Trinity V8 & the Ecoboost put that in the new GT500 Ford we want “MORE” Brofessor!!! Let’s be honest, the world of chest pumping will never stop for most who indulge in trying to convince the world who has the fastest car by whichever manufacturer. What I have noticed is that every reporting reference has a different spin on test result allowing everyone to continue this life-long pissing match. What “Cannot be intelligently argued” is plain physics.its what drives the results at any track. Aside from driver ability, track condition and relative elevation, there are only 3 simple factors that will determine your car’s results. Horsepower, Gearing & Weight!
If we are comparing cars rolling off the production line with the HP, Gearing and weight they are rated for, then we are able to compare apples to apples. Any car that is altered, tuned or enhanced in any way eg. Tires, increased boost, intakes, throttle bodies, exhaust etc. Then we cannot have an intelligent conversation on comparison because is anyone’s game. The argument will never stop on who beat who or which car is better. Discussion for those who have nothing better to do than create shit for their own amusement. To the comment by Michael Harris.”If” in fact Micheal Harris was a part of any SVT team for any amount of time.I would put more weight behind his findings than most other providing he is speaking from an neutral position.
I am a Shelby owner in the Edmonton, AB(2,300 elev.) area that has a fair amount of track time over the last 2 years and a whole bunch more from 1/4 mile racing in the 70’s. At our track (Castrol International) on the numerous Friday Night JB Performance Outlaw Street Races, the ‘Stock’ Hellcat on stock street tires ran a quickest times of around 12.4. One Charger Hellcat Automatic ran a 12.1 which then set the fastest stock time. As time went on tuning and tires saw them get into the upper 11’s with great launching/hooking. Of course many have now spent the coin and upped their game and run as fast as they are willing to invest for results.like the rest of us. Summary: What ‘Cannot’ be avoided is that the heavier the car, the more hp is requires to turn the same time as a lighter car.plain fact/physics. Lets all enjoy the cars we have and spend more time complimenting one another?
I have to say, I don’t see why some of you are arguing over the Hellcat and/or GT500 performance. It really doesn’t matter. The cars are all nice. I have a 1 of 1 custom built 2015 SRT8 Challenger and a 2013 anniversary addition GT500. The Mustang is a blast to drive and so is the Challenger. Sometimes it’s not about speed, but more about the look, feel, and how the car fits you as a driver. Besides, there will always be someone faster.
Kick in that fact that these cars are all over powered for their tires and most of the the owner’s/driver’s skills, it really just becomes bragging rights for the owner anyway. All great cars. Every one is in here bitching about different cars. Talking shit about other cars.
Everyone has their manufacturer they love. Ford, Chevy, Dodge.they’re all American muscle cars. It’s pretty simple how it goes, Chevy comes out with a fast car, Dodge comes out with a faster car and then Ford comes out with an even faster car. Then Chevy comes out with a faster car than the Ford, so on and so on and so on. That’s how it’s worked for years and years.
Best Proxy Browser Software. Idk why Ford, Chevy and Dodge owners hate each other so much. We are all in the same category. Chevy makes Ford and Dodge better and then Ford and Dodge make Chevy better by upping their game. Everyone has their preference, and every car will have their pros and cons.
If you’re a real die hard lover of American Muscle, than you’ll love every Camaro Mustang or Challenger/Charger that comes out. Ive owned a 2008 GT500, I’ve owned a 2010 Camaro SS, I’ve owned a 2012 Challenger SRT, now have a 2014 Jeep SRT and will get the new Jeep Trackhawk when it comes out. I loved each of them in their own ways. What you really need to be doing is talking shit to the little gay ass import tuners that roam the streets with their rice can exhausts and 12″ rims.
– A true lover of American Muscle. I came across a video on youtube that supports this twin turbo article, not 100% sold on it though. I like the 5.8L supercharged engine more.
