SCHOOL OF FREE TO AIR BASIC THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW FOR BEGINERS BEC, Coship, Vistar, Zinwell, Pansat, DMT, SA, ProSat, and the list goes on and on! Where did all of these receivers come from? While the U.S. And Canadian Cable industry distributes their programming largely via products sold by Motorola and a few others, the rest of the world chose the MPEG-2 format. Granted, even though, the Motorola Digicipher II has some MPEG-2 attributes, it nevertheless remains a totally proprietary platform.
Who has chosen MPEG-2 as a platform? Dish Network, Scientific Atlanta, and the rest of the world. Even DirecTV is a early version of MPEG-2. MPEG-2 is a digital platform that allows several digital broadcasts to be compressed onto one frequency or channel. Without MPEG-2, Digicipher, or other compression platform, it would not be possible to have direct broadcast television services like DirecTV or Dish Network.
Equally important is the way the programmers get the their product to their retail outlets such as DBS and cable. They too have chosen compressed digital transmissions largely due to cost.
PAX on GE-1 is an example of this. What does MPEG2-FTA mean?
MPEG stands for Moving Picture Experts Group. It is a method for compressing data. FTA stands for 'Free to Air'- meaning that the signal is not encrypted with conditional access.. Smart Cards or Conditional Access Modules, are generally used to decode scrambled signals. MPEG-2 is not an encryption method although encryption can be added. Dish Network uses the Nagra system of encryption, DirecTV uses a News Data system, and full view big dish primarily uses the Digicipher system. Transponder time has become so expensive that with the exception of the preachers, the Indecency channels, and the home shopping networks, it doesn't make sense to place only one channel on one frequency.
With HBO, and Discovery Networks planning 25 channels each, it would take over two C-Band birds to air their material the old fashioned analog way. WHAT CAN BE SEEN ON MPEG2-FTA? FTA or 'Free To Air' simply means that the signal is not encrypted.
Most cable type programming is encrypted. Occasionally programmers may turn the scrambler machine off and you can see a channel or two with an MPEG-2fta receiver. You will never see Time Warner cable programming, i.e.
CNN, HBO in fta mode in the U.S, CNN, and other international news channels, are available to viewers around the world in free to air mode, but not to the U.S, In the U.S. There are a number of channels that are available via MPEG-2 FTA receivers that have indicated that they plan to remain in the clear or are believed to intending to stay clear. These include Saudi TV, Abu Dhabi, Thai TV, Kuwait TV, Syria TV, Taiwan, Iran, and as we go to press, Bloomberg TV all on Telstar 5, ku, which can be received on a.7 meter dish. The list changes now and then but these and more can be seen today.
GE-1 is the home of a bouquet of channels from Paxton Communication's PAX TV. PanAmSat 9 at 58 degrees west is home to the RTP, EWTN, CCTV China, NHK, Deutche Wella, an Arab bouquet in PAL, and a channel from Colombia. Some of the channels from the middle east have scrambled but their feeds to Australia remain in the clear.
These feeds use the PAL format but a receiver like the BEC will convert the picture to NTSC, the North American format. MPEG2 FTA feeds are numerous and more and more are being added every day.
The economics of compression, allowing more than one service on each frequency dictate that we will see more. Every time another satellite fails, and they are failing, we see the prices of transponder time go up. A couple of thousand dollars an hour for a better bird are not unusual for part time use. WHERE DO YOU FIND LISTINGS OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE The answer is simple, you find it on the Internet. There are two sites that are very good. Every day Christian Lyngemark spends a few hours updating information from every broadcast satellite in the world from his office in Sweden. Chakravakam Telugu Serial Last Episode Video there. His site is supported by advertisers.
He relies on information from the programmers and satellite owners plus an army of volunteer spotters located around the world. His lists aren't always up to date or totally accurate, especially since many of the services go to great lengths to hide their feeds, but he is a very good detective. Christian's site is. But i don't understand your first post. I have a strong decoder. So what do i do with those keys u posted for strong?
Do i just enter 6969 and then try any one of those keys to see if it opens a scrambled channel? That would be the bomb though. Got another question for you, i posted it on the original FTA thread on this site, but got no response. Everytime i check on the net, i see keys for unlocking certain satellite tv systems e.g. Art, showtime, e.t.c. But how in God's name are they inputted into the decoder to get them to work.
Yes i know u type in t8282 0r 8280 to bring out the different menus but how does one progress from there? Cos there are several vertical columns numbered 1 to 200 and then the horizontal columns for you to put in the codes. I guess what i'm asking for is a detailed step by step guide on how to input keys into a strong decoder. Your help will be most appreciated.

Your help will be most appreciated. For a start, I don't think you can get Nilesat which is the satellite on which you find Showtime and ART (or otherwise Badr 26e or even Hotbird); so keys for the Showtime or ART packages are of no use to you. The one station in Naija for which most people can use a key is eTV on 68e (same satellite as MyTV) 3. How to insert keys will depend on your particular receiver; but you need to know some basics as explained below.
(a) TV providers who encrypt use different encryption systems e.g. Nagravision, Conax, Viacess etc (b) Some of these encryptions get compromised and 'keys' become available for some providers (c) For a particular provider that is compromised you need to know the encryption system e.g. ETV uses Nagravision; you then need to know the Provider's ID (a kind of identifying code) e.g.
2011 or 2111 for eTV; you then have to know the particular 'active' key. (d) You then enter the keys into your receiver; however, first of all your receiver must be 'patched', which means it must have the right kind of software; (official software is normally useless for this purpose). (e) You enter the key into the correct space for the particular provider (using its correct ID), in the right encryption section (e.g. Nagravision), and in the right format i.e. 'hex' or 'dec' (in rows of 2 characters or rows of 3 characters). From here, to be able to help you further, you need to state what satellite(s) you can currently receive and what provider/channels you want to watch. By ( m): 2:18pm On Feb 25, 2008.
Hi Enigma, I did post a similar question on the FTA thread and u gave me some answers so I do know something about FTA now, but I sorta need to fine tune this knowledge. Let me give u some background: I have a strong srt4651 with which I receive nilesat and nss7.
L beliee the stations on nss7 are not available. But nilesat does include art and showtime the keys for which as I said earlier are occasionally available online (irdeto keys). Now let's say I get these keys as a string of alphanumerics, I know I hae to press 8282 to bring up the menu for entering keys. But this menus are arrange in ertical columns numbered one to 200. With different proiders listed on the horizontal rows, and sometimes (actually most times) some providers have more than one vertical row.
Now what is confusing me is does each vertical column correspond to a channel number or if I enter irdeto keys once I don't have to repeat it again and all the channels it can unlock just comes alive? Also is the procedure the same for hex keys. By ( m): 6:11pm On Feb 25, 2008. OK Gangsta Cool that you get Nilesat. First, I don't think there are any currently working keys for Art/Showtime.
For when keys become available and how to enter them into your receiver, I will like you to do something: please take a picture (maybe with your mobile phone) of the display on your TV screen of the Keys menu page (after pressing 8282) of your receiver. The reason is that I do not remember the menu system of the Strong receiver offhead and I do not have one at present. On the other hand some general info: 1.The columns usually relate to a Provider (e.g. DSTV, MyTV, HiTV, Showtime, ART) 2. As you know, each provider has several channels 3. The Key for a Provider goes on one or two lines (most of the time and rarely more than that) 4.
That means your receiver probably allows for keys of up to 200 Providers 5. Keys can be entered in two formats: Dec format will be something like this - Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep Bleep; the same key may be in Hex format e.g.
Xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx; Mathematicians will tell you that those two keys are identical apart from the format i.e. Dec or hex ( Edited and modified) 6. You then have to work out which format your receiver allows, hex or dec; which determines the format in which you must obtain the keys. For the particular provider, you must know the Provider's ID which you enter in the same slot as the keys to let your receiver associate the keys with the provider; e.g.
Showtime's ID in many receivers is 0604. Have a look at the keys menu again in light of this info and see if it makes better sense. By ( m): 8:44pm On Feb 25, 2008. Gangsta Ok and very good; the Strong receiver is laid out similar to the Technomate that I'm using so it should be easy to walk you through it. The first thing you should do is use the cursor to keep moving right from No 1 (where it starts) through the numbers until you get to a slot that says 'CAS - Irdeto'. In fact, I see from one of your pictures that slot no 2 says Irdeto/Betacrypt, that also can be used for Showtime (if it becomes necessary); but the first thing is to see whether any of the Irdeto slots already has ident 0604 --- if you find one like that, that is the one to use for Showtime. If you don't find any Showtime specific slot, you can (a) use any existing free/unused slot for Showtime by selecting CAS Irdeto and entering 0604 for Ident and when keys become available you enter the keys; or (b) convert any of the other Irdeto slots to Showtime by entering 0604 for Ident; or (c) convert any other slot e.g.
By using cursor to change CAS from say Seca to Irdeto, enter Showtime's ident and keys when those become available. PS Note that by moving the cursor around on any of the slot you can change or tailor the information on that slot: e.g. Slot 1 that has 'CAS - Seca' can be changed to 'CAS - Irdeto' etc by using the cursor (i.e. Up/down/left/right keys). In the meantime are you using keys for any channels at all at present, e.g. By ( m): 10:01pm On Feb 27, 2008. Hi Everyone, I just hope I could get someone in here who could assist me.
I have a Strong Decoder on which I subscribe to My Tv. The guy that did the installation convinced me to buy a smaller dish (than the one that came with MyTv) and install along with the original one such that I can enjoy Nollywood. Recently, Nollywood repositioned their servces, and I called my guy in to sort out the issue. He repositioned the dish and scanned the stations again. Now, I have a total of 132 Channels on the decoder. However, I can only view 46 channels. Now, the issue is that some of the channels on the decoder show a dollar sign ($) in front of them and indicate that they have been scrambled.
IS THERE ANYONE IN THE HOUSE HERE THAT CAN HELP WITH A CODE OR SOLUTION ON HOW TO UNLOCK THESE CHANNELS. These channles have very strong reception - 86%, whereas some of those that I catch on MyTv are just like 18%. Infact, the channels I would like to watch out of the said channels are as follows: MM2; Ch O, SS Max; BBC F; SS3; SS1; MM 1; MNet W; CRIME; SSsel; Dsny; SABCA; Actio; MTV B; BBC W; SS2; SS10; Mstar; BBC P; MNet E; HallM; EuroN; ESPN; CNN; MTV; B4U; Boom; SS6; SkyN; SS7; SS5; SSuspen; Metro and EuroS, Please is there anyone able to help. Hi guente, sorry it took me a while to get back to you, i haven't checked up on this thread for a while now. I personally don't know how to create an rs232 cable but u can always find such info on the net.
I once saw a tutorial on an FTA site with a detailed description for creating one, but i caan't find the site anymore. What i do know is that the rs232 cable required for the strong decoder is a 15 - 9 pin setup. U can check out the connection listed on this site i hope it can be of help to u, that is if you can somehow lay your hand on the necessary components. All the best. By: 8:12am On Apr 10, 2008. Go to people selling computer/electronics parts, ask them for 9 pin female ( with holes) serial/com plugs, not molded ones. The 9 pin at the back of PCs are male because they have pins.
Remember pins (male) must go into holes ( female). You need to do some soldering or ask that electronics man near your house to do it for you. Get some flexible but insulated wires, connect pin 2 of the first female plug to pin 3 of the second, the pin 3 of the first plug to pin 2 of the second, then pin 5 to pin 5 of the second. You have crossed rs232 cable.remember connect the ground(metallic parts) of the two plugs together.
For you to test, connect it btween your receiver and your pc, use hyperterminal service in your windows xp, vista.switch off and then on your receiver, the software version of your receiver will be displayed in the hyperterminal window.if u run into problem, let me know. I have a cable that i built myself and i downloaded the software but haven't use them because i don't really know what the software upgrade will do to my strong 4651x receiver, any one to help?
