They look after 24 colonies of bees and produce local honey and beeswax products including candles, polish, skincreams and soap. Paul will take a small colony of bees in a securely sealed glass-sided observation hive and will describe the inner workings of the colony. Hundreds of people joined outside the Harbourmasters office for the unveiling of the commemorative plaque. This excellently orchestrated event was introduced by Mayor Mark James and delivered by Cllr Phil Hill, Cllr Sue Slater along with the Rector and Harold Lowe’s grandson. The Ardudwy Male Voice Choir performed and also led the closing hymn of the ceremony that saw both Harold Lowes Grandson and Maddie, who had instigated the chain of events that led to todays event perform the unveiling. Both the Army and Air cadets participated, lowering their standards to signal the minute’s silence that opened the proceedings. Various people around town collect items that can be recycled to raise money for charities e.g. Mobile phones to pay for guide dogs, used stamps help buy wheel chairs, used ink cartridges benefit cancer charities spectacles go to third world countries. Thursdays’ event will be a chance for you to see what else is collected and who benefits while at the same time enjoying a Fair Trade Coffee Morning. Gwynedd Council will be on hand to answer questions about their recycling services and enable you to order replacement bins etc. Lit and Deb On the evening of St Davids Day the Society met for the last time this winter season to hear a talk on the estate of Dolymelynllyn, given by Rhodri Wigley,an area ranger for the National Trust.

The former mansion at Dolymelyllyn is of historic interestand oimportance, once owned by the young William Maddocks, who built, at the turn of the C19th, what became the Cob at Porthmadog. Rhodri described in detail his job of conserving and maintaining the natural environment of the estate: walls, standing and fallen timber, ancient and new areas of woodland, the mansions gardens and even cleaning the lake.

The area was mined for gold in earlier centuries and the remains of many old mine workings have been tidied up and left in place. Groups of work volunteers and of school children are encouraged to visit and clearly enjoy themselves so doing. His audience was fascinated by Rhodri’s address which was supported by slides and and added explanations by his colleague Rhdian Morris, a Community Ranger with the Trust. The question ans answer period which followed showed the keen interest and appreciation of all presentat this inspiring talk. Barmouth Bowling Club The Chairman, Bill Gaskell, welcomed 25 members to the start of season meeting on 10 March. There was a minute’s silence to remember two good members of the club who had recently died, Roy Morton and Frank Wright.

Bill thanked all those who had been involved in maintaining the green over the winter months. The green has extensive areas of moss on it but it is hoped that it will be cleared, and the green be ready to play on, by 1 st April.

John Coward was thanked for polishing all the woods and the ladies were thanked for giving the clubhouse a spring clean. Bill asked for more help from members as maintenance is required on the three benches and the green needs trimming regularly. The Captain, Stan Ward, gave an outline of the new guidelines regarding the playing of club competitions and these will be displayed on the notice board. Members were asked to distribute posters in the area to encourage new members and that visitors would be welcome. The nine hole putting green is also available to all. Club days are on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1.45 but other days can be arranged by contacting Bill on 280500.

19-02-12 Barmouth News Prayer Conference On the first Thursday of the month at 7pm in the Meeting Room at the Presbytery at St. Tudawl Church Barmouth there will be a conference on “Learning to pray and deepening your life of prayer”. The Conference is open to all. It will consist of input, question time and fellowship over tea and snacks, and will be over by 8pm.

There are no fees and you and your friends will be made most welcome. The first session will be on Thursday 1 st March; Msgr Alex Robello invites you and your friends to go along. All that Jazz There will be a one day jazz festival on Sunday 27 th May in the Min Y Mor, organized by the Barmouth Music Workshop and the hotel proprietors. Goat Street Runners Professional touring company Lighthouse Theatre will be at the Dragon Theatre to present a new play based on the three night blitz of Swansea. Probably not suitable for children under 10 due to the subject matter but an excellent opportunity for older children to experience history through theatre.

Everything from half mannequins to fake palm trees! If you're having a clear out yourself, they would welcome items to sell for theatre funds, nothing electrical.
